Police detain the mother of JDS workers’ double murder accused in Toppanahalli

Mandya: The police are keeping a hawk-eye in the trouble torn Toppanahalli village of Maddur taluk after two JDS workers were brutally murdered in the area few days ago.

Though the situation is under control, village remains tense in the aftermath of killings. Fights erupted over sharing of water which later took a political turn in which two JDS party workers were killed.

In the meantime, mother of the accused Kumar, Puttalingamma verbally abused the wife of deceased Mutturaju using foul language. She abused Muthuraju’s wife Shwetha for holding his son responsible for killings, whom she termed innocent.

Shwetha in response lodged a complaint against Puttalingamma and soon police took Puttalingamma into their custody for further inquiry.

Police have deployed four Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and four District Armed Reserve (DAR) platoons to prevent further untoward incidents in the area. Deputy Superintendent of Police Thomas is monitoring the security situation in the trouble torn village.

It may be recalled,On Sunday evening, two JD(S) workers — Nandish (25) and Muthuraj (48) — were stabbed to death and three others injured following a clash between two groups over water. Five people were arrested in connection with the incident on December 26.
