Mandya: Followed by opposition from many Hindu outfits the District Administration has recommended to change the name of Salam Arati of Melukote Cheluvanarayanaswamy temple as Sandhya Arati.
It is said that during tenure of erstwhile King Tipu Sultan, the temple priests began performing Arati at 7.00 pm daily in the name of Salam Arati to God. But in recent times Hindu leaders and Dharmika Parishad Member B. Naveen submitted memorandum to DC urging to change the name as it has no meaning in Hindu scripts.
The DC sought report from Pandavapura Assistant Commissioner and Temple Executive Officer in this regard. Both officers opined to change the name. The DC C. S. Ashwathi wrote letter to State Muzrai Commissioner to change the name as Sandhya Arati. The Muzrai Department is yet to issue order on this.
