Bhartinagar (Mandya): A three-year-old girl is being hailed as a hero after her presence of mind and timely action helped save her friend from drowning at a village pond at Annur village of Mandya district.
On November 10, Chandana and her friend Reeta had gone to a nearby shop to buy snacks. While the duo were returning home Reetha happened to stamp on cow dung on the roadside and approached the village pond to cleanse her leg. However she slipped and fell into the pond and though Chandana rushed to her aid, her efforts went in vain.
A quick thinking Chandana then rushed to Reetha home and informed her father Chandrashekar, who failed to take note of her words.
With time running out, Chandana rushed to her house and dragged her father Ajithkumar to the pond. Though he immediately managed to pull Reetha out of the water, she had fallen unconscious by then
Ajithkumar pumped water from her body using first aid technique and then rushed her to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile, worried parents of Reetha too rushed to the hospital.
Reetha who managed to survive the ordeal, thanks to her friend returned home after being hospitalized for two days.
