Mysuru: With an aim to help farmers, Mysuru district administration has come up with a novel method. The officials said that they would hold mass marriages and have even advanced the mass wedding ‘Shubharambha’ to be held at Nanjangud on November 25 to November 28.
Expensive marriages have been driving farmers to end thier lives. So in order to bring about a change in the mindset of farmers who are in distress, the officials of district administration have come up with mass wedding initiative. They are hoping to instill confidence among the farmers and public in general by conducting simple, inter-caste and mass marriages.
They are encouraging the rich and affluent to set a model for farmers, by keeping the applications open for both rural and urban couples irrespective of their financial status.
Each couple will be given a set of items including Maangalya, Belli Kaalungura (toe ring), Baasinga, garlands and one set of clothes for the groom and a saree for the bride worth Rs 18,000, sources said.
