Mysuru: The elections for Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be held on December 7. The BJP-JD(S) coalition, which is in power since three years, will continue for another two years. For the post of Mayor K T Cheluve Gowda representing ward no 27 has a bright chance.
If the party goes by seniority then Cheluve Gowda who has served for four terms stands a good chance. He has also served as the party president for three years. Further, he is also having a solid backing from MLA Sa Ra Mahesh, MLC Marithibbe Gowda and even former chief minister Kumaraswamy. JD(S) will be having a core committee meeting to finalise the name after the ongoing Assembly sessions in Belagavi. M J Ravi Kumar (Chinni Ravi) who represents ward no 35 is also trying and going all out in his efforts for the Mayor’s post. He is also having a good support from the senior leaders in the party.
For the post of deputy mayor, BJP is likely to choose between Seema Prasad and Rathna Laxman. There are all possibilities that Rathna is the most preferred. In Mysuru City Corporation, JD(S) has 23 corporators, three members of Legislative Council and one MLA vote which makes it 27. On the other hand, the BJP has 13 corporators and one MP vote making it 14.
