MFW Season 2: Models present contemporary collection on Day 2

Mysuru: With major Southern stars celebrity showstoppers like Actor Sindhu Loknath, Amala Paul, Sanjana Galrani and Parul Yadav gracing the ramp of Mysore Fashion Week to packed ballroom of the Country Inn & Suites on Day 1, the second day kick-started with the Contemporary theme, presented by the students of Dreamzone.

Their young designers namely Kavitha Subramaniyam, Kauser Nawaz, Sneha and Rashmi, Megha, Neethu and Harshala, Ramyashree and Manjunath M, Yashwanth M and Yogesh M, M Vaijayanthi, Charishma Shetty, Jikkysha Shaji, Lakshmi Baliga, Krupen Patel, Kavitha and Sadam presented a Contemporary collection in hues of raw mango green, burnt reds and earth, mellow golds and black, trouser suit sarees, ready to wear sarees with innovative drape dupattas, cape cut sleeves, graphic print fabrics.

Bangalore based designer Mohan Gowda presented ‘ZivA’ designing elegant evening gowns in gold and nude peach ruffles in smoked net. Rani pinks, tangerine oranges, purples separates and gowns and cocktail dresses generously embellished with luxurious gold borders in sequin, embroidery for Indian bridal, couture and western wear with jewellery designed and styled by Amit Pandya.

Designer Almaz Syed, a graduate from St. Philomena’s College, Mysore started her designing career in 2013 with her label “Moda Click. ”Showcasing a collection of mix-and-match of separate blouse and skirts, jewelled evening gowns, chiffon sarees with net and cutwork lace pallus, beads, multi-hued stones on velvet jackets for men, carried an aura of chic royalty. Rani pinks, ivory crème, nude golds, rich reds, mint greens and midnight blues gave the collection a festive celebration of the contemporary spirit.

Assamese designer Sanjukta Dutta chic, fashionable and exquisite range of completely customized Assamese `Mekhla Chador’ and jewellery has not just made her a rage in Eastern India, but is also rapidly capturing the imagination of discerning women in other parts of the country and the world.  With over 100 looms, Sanjukta offers customers a wide choice of her characteristic silk Mekhla Chadors with different varieties of coloured silk threads – ranging from orange, blue and yellow apart from traditional colours like red, black and muga. Every single Mekhla Chador designed by her is unique, customized, hand-crafted and goes through a rigorous 45 day production cycle before it can effectively tell the story that the beautiful woman draping it wants it to.

At Mysore Fashion week, Sanjukta showcased her collection of beautiful, hand-crafted two-piece Mehkla Chadors with traditional Assamese motifs inspired by nature, flora and fauna and other geometrical shapes effectively paired with tasselled head ornamentation to resemble chic turbans.

Grand finale closing by jewellery designer Mona Shroff from Hong Kong brought the house down with a jazzy theatrical drama sequence choreographed by Achla Sachdev with models swaying to old Bollywood jazz songs ?as they sashayed and danced showcasing the designer’s exotic fusion and contemporary jewellery on garments designed by Rajeev Mehta. White, black and blood red gowns showed off Mona Shroff’s jewels to perfection. Launching her brand in January 2011, Mona has been a designer for 18 years and retails for in-house labels for Selfridges (London), Galleria Lafayette (Paris), Harvey Nichols in Hong Kong, Aza and Mogra in India and 2Divine in Dubai with production lines in Italy, Brazil, Spain, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Philippines and China. For her Fusion collection Mona used roses made from shells, gold plated metal plates which are fitted on treated wood, acrylic flowers with rubber, and hand painted banana plant barks specially treated for anti-termites. This entire collection was hand made in the Philippines.

For the Contemporary collection, the designer showcased her edgy side by featuring pieces hand-made in Brazil with semi-precious stones and 18 carat Gold plating. All the semi-precious stones are from Madagascar and Brazil.

Showstopper actor Vidyut Jamwal brought the packed house down walking for Mona Shroff bringing to close a hectic Day 2 showcase of contemporary fashion.
