Mysuru: The Mysore Zoo authorities have sought the help of specialists to ensure well-being of the three remaining zebras in the zoo, after the zoo saw tragic death of two zebras over the last one week.
It may be recalled that the two zebras that died were among the four zebras gifted to the Zoo by Ramat Gan Safari Park at Tel Aviv in Israel, last year. While one died during last week of November, another died on Thursday, December 3.
It is said that the zebras had succumbed to colic or abdominal pain and kidney disorder, which is said to be common among the equine species.
The zoo veterinarians suspect that viral infection could have triggered the deaths and it is a challenge to prevent the infection from spreading to three remaining zebras — two female and one male.
Nevertheless, preventive medication was being administered through water and they are also given electrolytes, the sources said.
