Mysuru – Colombo dual track field sports meet held

Mysuru: The Mysore District Athletics associations organized Mysuru – Colombo dual track and field sports meet in Chamundi Vihar Stadium. More than 1500 Athletes from different schools of Mysuru and Colombo in took part in the sports meet on August 1.

Sports meetThe event started with a march-past from different schools and colleges of city and then event was officially inaugurated by MLA Vasu by releasing balloons to sky.

Nandi awardee and former principal of DOS in Physical education of UoM Prof Seshanna welcomed the gathering and said “This is the 3rd time Mysuru – Colombo districts sports meet has been organized, we aim to expose the students of the city to the sports around the world.”

“Mysuru District athletes association stood 26th rank in past year ranking as the best athlete association. We have initiated a program named ‘Catch them young and coach them well’ where students below 12 years are given permission to compete in the event and later will coach them in various sports”, he added.

Chairman of Mysuru District Athletes Association and MLA P Vasu did the inaugural speech and said “MDAA is working hard to bring talented athletes to lime light, Government have released more than 2 Crore funds for the athletes who have achieved great in the sports field.”

“I have spoken to chief minister Siddaramaiah and Education minister to give up to 10% of Additional marks to students from 1st to 12th standard that have achieved or won medals in sports. This initiative would help students to take part in sports meets and attain great heights” they added.
