Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar announced on Saturday that the Centre has approved plans to streamline traffic on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway. The project includes the construction of flyovers and additional entry and exit points to improve traffic flow, especially around the Manipal Hospital junction, where traffic congestion has significantly increased. Yaduveer informed the media that the tender process for the flyover is underway, and work is expected to begin within six months.
The highway, which currently has toll plazas near Ganangur in Srirangapatna (Mandya district) and Bidadi (Ramanagara), will soon see 28 new entry and exit points. Vehicle users will be charged tolls based on the distance they travel on the highway.
In addition to the flyover project, the Department of Railways has approved the construction of Rail Over Bridges (ROBs) at Bidadi, Channapatna, and Mandya, with an estimated cost of Rs. 711 crore. These ROBs are expected to ensure smooth train movement and better connectivity for rural areas.
Yaduveer also shared that an expert committee’s report is awaited on the proposed diversion of the Mysuru-Nanjangud road near Mysore Airport, as well as plans for a tunnel for the nearby railway track. Further discussions are underway with Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL) regarding the shifting of power lines to underground or overhead systems.
The MP also pledged to raise concerns over the MUDA and Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Corporation scams in the upcoming Lok Sabha sessions. Additionally, he assured that the Centre remains committed to addressing issues faced by coffee and tobacco farmers in the Mysuru-Kodagu constituency.
