Mysuru: Mysuru District administration and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) paid glowing tributes to former President APJ Abdul Kalam, the missile man, on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner C Shikha said, he was a source of inspiration for the whole country and the youths. He was the people’s president and was an eminent scientist, teacher. “The death of Kalam is an irreparable loss to this nation”, she said on a mournful note.
The DC recalled her meeting with Kalam, during launch of Provision of Urban Amenities to Rural Areas (PURA), a project, for rural development in the country in 2004. Kalam had launched the project, she remembered.
After paying a floral tribute to Kalam’s photo at MCC, Mayor R Lingappa too recalled his interaction with Kalam during his visit to Mysuru recently.

Former Mayor urged to develop a bust of Kalam
Former Mysuru Mayor Sandesh Swamy urged MCC and the government to establish a bust of APJ Abdul Kalam in city. At a condolence meet organized at MCC, he said “Kalam is inspiration and motivation. In order for the nation to pay tribute and remember him, a bust needs to be installed in city”.
MCC employess work an additional one-hour
As a tribute to Kalam, MCC employees worked an hour extra today. During the condolence meeting, MCC commissioner C G Betsurmath urged the employees to work for one extra hour.
Further, Corporator Purushottam urged the government to cancel holidays during the death of dignitaries. He said that as per Kalam’s views, we need to work for public cause.
