Mysuru city police submits ‘B’ report in Siddaramaiah land case

Mysuru: The police have filed a ‘B’ report to a city court in which it has stated that there is no substance in the complaint that a house was constructed on agricultural land by former chief minister Siddaramaiah.

Police Commissioner Dr A Subramanyeswara Rao said that an investigation by Lakshmipuram police has revealed that the complaint would have been filed due to a misunderstanding. According to the report the CITB (formerly known as MUDA) had not acquired the land when Siddaramaiah bought it and constructed the house.

The report states, “Siddaramaiah bought the land from a private person and sold it to another person later. The land conversion for residential purposes was done well in advance.”

CITB had obtained 535 acres of land under Hinkal Grama Panchayat, in 1981, to develop Vijayanagar Second Stage. Papanna, former president of Gram Panchayat applied to the MUDA to drop his 30 guntas of land from the developed land, which was converted into a layout. The land was denotified by MUDA, and was shared among the family members of Papanna. Siddaramaiah, who was then the deputy chief minister, had bought 10 guntas of land, a share of Papanna’s aunt Sakamma and constructed a house, and sold the house in 2003.

Sakamma applied to MUDA for an alternative land, which was allotted to her. But, on what grounds she was allotted an alternative land is in question. Again in December 2017, Sakamma’s family members applied for another alternative site with the MUDA, again in December 2017, when the issue was exposed.

Gangaraju filed a complaint before the court, stating that the grounds for the first alternative site were not clear and the MUDA was about to allot the second site. Responding to the complaint, the court had directed the Lakshmipuram police to investigate the matter and submit a report.

Sighting no progress in the investigation, Gangaraju had demanded a CBI enquiry into the case. He also wrote a letter regarding this to the DG&IGP, after which the DGP had sought a report from the city police.

Gangaraju said he would appeal against the ‘B’ report submitted by Mysuru police, before the court.
