Mysuru: Excise Deputy Inspector H. G. Srinivas was left baffled by the Dalita Sangharsha Samithi leaders for not answering their questions on the Excise Department at a meeting of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Committee.
At a meeting convened under the Chairmanship of Tahasildar C. G. Geetha at the Town Panchayat Hall, he was being asked questions one after the other about the lapses of the Excise Department.
Dalita Sangharsha Samithi District Convener Sosale Shashikanth said that wine shops in Narasipur Town are not following the excise rules. Certain bar and restaurants as well as resorts should make arrangements for drinking indoors but are serving consumers liquor on roads and adjoining places. As soon as it is 6.00 pm, the people can be seen drinking on the edge of the highway in these places, he alleged. Adding to this, he said that the authorities can verify these facts themselves.
There has been no instance that an Excise Officer of the Taluk has taken any action against the wine shops. If they did their duties sincerely, there will be no need to discuss the sale of illicit liquor and liquor. Therefore, action should be taken against the Excise Department officials first, he demanded.
