Mysuru: Leopard caught in snare trap, dies

Mysuru: A three-year-old female leopard died in Kaggali Hundi Village of Nanjanagudu Taluk on Tuesday February 28. The incident took place in the field of Chandrashekhar, a farmer in the Village.

It is said that farmer Chandrashekhar fixed snare trap in his field to catch wild boar which destroyed crop. On the morning of Tuesday February 28, a leopard tried to enter the sugar field but stuck in snare trap. It died of asphyxiation after moaning for few hours.

Locals captured the video of the leopard’s moaning on a mobile phone, and the person who shot the video said, “The Forest Department officials were informed about the leopard being trapped. The Department was informed about this at 8.00 am but officials reached spot at 11.00 am.

After the death of the leopard, Nanjanagudu Range Forest Officer Kiran Kumar and his staff visited the spot and conducted an inspection and sent the dead body for postmortem examination.

Kiran Kumar said, “We have registered a case against the farmer who fixed snare trap in the field.
