Mysuru: The National Service Scheme (NSS) cadets of SBRR Mahajana First Grade College at Jayalakshmipuram here, held a campaign to remove hyacinth plants at Kukkarahalli Lake on Monday August 10.

Water hyacinth plant is known as ‘Terror of Bengal’ because it is a shrub found growing at a dangerous rate on the surface of the water body. It hinders the growth of fish and other aquatic organisms which is caused due to cut down of light and lack of oxygen.

NSS programme coordinator Siddaraju C. S., Dr. K. M. Jayaramaiah, a former member of the Karnataka Tank Conservation and Development Authority, and others were present.
