Mysuru: One of the tigress ‘Nayanji Katte Female’s’ three cubs were found dead in the Taraka forest area that is part of the Nagarahole Tiger Reserve (NTR) on Sunday November 27.
The male cub’s carcass was found by the forest staff, who were engaged in a search operation to locate the cubs, in the Taraka forest area in Dommanakatte Beat, which is part of the Antarasathe wildlife range.
According to sources, the cub had a fracture in his front leg, and injury marks on his neck and his shoulder. The forest officials suspect that the cub had been killed in a fight with a dominant male. The carcass was burnt as per the rules after organ samples were taken for testing.
The foresters had started a combing operation to track the movement of the tigress’s three cubs in the Antharasanthe forest range near Taraka Dam after she was found dead on November 12 after getting caught in the snare set to trap wild boars.
The forest staff is patrolling to monitor their movements after the foresters set up 30 camera traps.
