Mysuru: The Supreme Court on Tuesday November 23 upheld the single bench verdict and dismissed the appeal filed by State
Government. The verdict related to 1536 acres of land owned by Mysuru Royal family on the slopes of Chamundi Hills.

The land dispute was pending in court since decades between State Government and royal family. The State Government has filed an appeal before divisional bench of SC against single bench order.

The land dispute verdict is said to be a major setback for the government. The land has area of 1536 acres spread across Kurubarahalli, Alanahalli, Chaudhahalli  and Mysuru. The royal family has been fighting for the land claiming to be the original owners of the land while State Government claims the the land belongs to them. Now the Supreme Court’s divisional bench has said that the land belongs to the Mysore kings.

The Divisional Bench also has dismissed the appeal filed by the State Government challenging the unanimous verdict last July. Earlier, the State Government had challenged the Karnataka High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court. The  court ordered to State Government that
whoever owns land from the royal family before 1974 should  be given ownership. Though the final verdict came in favour of royal family in month of July, the State authorities were dilly-dallying to transfer khata in to name of royal family. That is when the royal family filed a contempt of court petition before SC for enforcement of verdict. The contempt petition is coming up for hearing on December 7.
