Mysuru, Tumakuru and Shivamogga ULB polls to be held on Aug 31

Mysuru: The State Election Commission (SEC), on Thursday declared that the elections to the urban local bodies (ULBs) of Mysuru, Tumakuru and Shivamogga will be held on August 31. Elections to the other 105 ULBs are being held on August 29 as announced by the SEC earlier.  
 
The polls will be held from morning 7 am till 5 pm in the evening and counting of votes and announcement of results will take place on September 3. With the announcement of the polls, the model code of conduct has become effective immediately and will remain in force till September 3.
 
A formal notification for the polls will be issued on August 13. The last date for filing and withdrawal of nominations is August 20 and August 23 respectively. 
 
The term of the elected bodies in Mysuru, Tumakuru and Shivamogga will end on September 4September 16 and November 12, respectively. Together the three cities have 135 wards and nearly  13.33 lakh voters.
 
As per a SEC release adequate security arrangements have been made for the polls.
 
Meanwhile the Congress and JD(S) have opted to fight the ULB polls independently and a decision on forging an alliance, if needed has been left to the discretion of the local leaders.
