Mysuru: Senior Writer S. L. Bhyrappa has said that those who say that they will build a statue of Tipu, should read and understand the contributions and achievements of Tipu Sultan.
He was speaking after releasing book, ‘Tipu Nija Kanasugalu’ by Addanda C. Cariappa at Rangayana organised in association with Ayodhya Prakashana in Bhoomigeetha on Sunday November 13. He said, “before Tipu’s rule, the Mysuru Kings used Kannada. Persian language came into use when Tipu’s rule began. He had given Persian alternative names to many towns as well as words of revenue administration, which are still prevalent today, he noted.
The name of any town has the historical, heritage and cultural background of that region. Changing the names of such a place would destroy the culture, heritage and history of that place. And that is what Tipu did, he explained.
Now, it is being intended to build Tipu’s statue, which is being thought after witnessing unveiling of Kempegowda’s statue in Bengaluru. But Kempegowda was the builder of great Bengaluru. He built hundreds of tanks for drinking water and behind building an organised City. His statue has been erected due to these noble work. However, there is no point in erecting a statue of Tipu, who is cruel, fanatic and anti-Kannada, Bhyrappa alleged.
