Mysuru: A 40-year-old tusker died in a fight with another tusker at Bandipur National Tiger Reserve Forest on Friday October 8.
According to a forest watcher who was an eyewitness of the incident, the two tuskers fought with each other at Kalasuru in Yediyala sub-division, Begur range of Bandipur National Tiger Reserve forest. One elephant aged around 40 years succumbed on the spot. The elephant had suffered injuries above throat and below the ear.
As a safety measure, the tusks were removed and were sent to Sriganda Koti (Sandalwood treasury) at Aranya Bhavan, the forest office complex at Ashokapuram in Mysuru.
Later veterinarian Dr. Wasim Mirza attached to Bandipur performed the autopsy and buried the elephant as per protocol.
