Chikkaballapura: A person impersonating as Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB) Deputy Commissioner attempted to extort money from Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (ZP CEO)

According to complaint filed by ZP officers, a stranger called ZP Deputy Secretary B. Shiva kumar on Friday April 22 introduced himself as ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police (Praveen Kumar of Chikkaballapura). The caller said that the ZP CEO is not picking his call and hence told Shiva Kumar to inform CEO to go on leave as ACB has planned to raid his office, shortly. Thereafter, Shiva Kumar called ACB and enquired whether he called  him. And that is when Praveen Kumar said that he never called him. But again the caller called Shiva Kumar and said that the Advocate General (AG) and ACB higher officers are going for tour to Manasa Sarovara and Sri Lanka. He demanded Rs. 65000 from ZP officials to buy a gift to AG. The caller further instructed to remit money through UPI to Umesh Kumar and Naveen Kumar at ACB Headquarters in Khanija Bhavana, Bengaluru.

A case has been registered at Nandi Police Station. It is said that similar calls were made to officers in Kolar, Bengaluru Rural and other districts. Police is investigating.
