Mysuru: Despite the jinx around Chamarajanagar, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will visit Chamarajanagar on Thursday October 7 as planned.

Speaking to media persons at the airport here on Wednesday October 6, Bommai said that all the districts are equal for the him. “Upon visiting those Taluks, I can understand the problems and take up development works. The question is about my faith and responsibility to go to Chamarajanagar. It is not just tomorrow as President of India Ram Nath Kovind is taking part in a slew of programmes at Chamarajanagar. I will be returning to Chamarajanagar to conduct a review meeting again, as I am committed towards its development. I had told my friends from Chamarajanagar confirming my visit two months ago,” he informed.

It was after visiting Chamarajanagar, Bommai’s father, late S. R. Bommai, lost power as Chief Minister, which he denied, saying it was not because of the visit. “Did the Chief Ministers still in power who skipped visit of Chamarajanagar believing they lose power?” he questioned. He said as a Chief Minister, it is an opportunity to learn about the issues in most backward district of the State as per Nanjundappa Committee Report. “There are instances of Chief Ministers losing power even after not going to Chamarajanagar. Power is not permanent,” said Bommai defending the reason behind his visit.

He said that foundation for the Adishakti Mahadevamma Temple at Huchgani in Nanjanagudu Taluk, would be laid soon. He instructed officers to conduct survey and identify the encroachments of Raja canal and lakes as Bengaluru is facing problems during heavy rains. Lower areas were flooded due to a lack of space for water to pass. He said officials would prepare a plan to rehabilitate residents whose houses have submerged during heavy rains.
