Mysuru: Accused tribal dies in forest officials’ custody

Mysuru: A 49-year-old tribal who was arrested recently on the charges of selling deer meat died suspiciously on Wednesday October 12.

Kariyappa alias Kariya of Hosahalli tribal hamlet in N. Beguru forest in HD Kote Taluk was arrested by the forest personnel attached to Range Forest Office, N Beguru, three days ago.

According to his relatives, Kariya died of excesses committed on him during interrogation by the Forest personnel. But forest officers ruled out any kind of torture and clarified that Kariya died of heart attack at the time of interrogation.

The body has been shifted to the mortuary attached to KR Hospital in Mysuru. The enraged relatives staged protest demanding higher level probe into the incident and urged State Government to provide compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to the family.
