Mysuru: Foundation stone was laid for Swami Vivekanada Samskruthika Yuva Kendra amid heavy police cover on Narayan Shastry Road in the City on Wednesday July 6.

Sri Ramakrishna Ashram, Mysuru had organised the ground breaking ceremony for its much ambitious project, at the place where once stood Maharani’s NTM School, sparing Niranjana Matha in the rear side. President of Sri Ramakrishna Ashram Swami Mukthidanandaji along with Sutturu Matha Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji and Someshwaranatha Swamiji of Adhichunchanagiri Mysuru Branch Matha took part in the ceremony.

District In-Charge Minister S. T. Somashekar, MP Pratap Simha, MLAs S. A. Ramadas, G. T. Devegowda and L. Nagendra were present, along with writers S. L. Bhyrappa, and C. P. Krishna Kumar were present.

A Library, Reading Hall, Yoga auditorium are among several other structures planned here. The activities are intended to empower youth and ignite the spirit of nationalism in them. It may be recalled here that the proposal had triggered a controversy with a section of progressive thinkers vehemently opposing the centre coming at Maharani’s NTM School place, displacing the students. A few months ago, the District Administration demolished the school building, paving way for the centre to become a reality.
