Mysuru: As part of the Mysuru Dasara 2022, the heritage tonga ride was inaugurated by Professor Selvapillai Iyengar here on Friday September 30.
Speaking after inaugurating Iyengar said, “Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage have planned heritage tonga rides only for couples. These couples are expected to wear traditional clothing.”
They get to visit heritage structures in the City. “It is our foremost duty to protect our heritage which has been highlighted in the Constitution. We could not have a tonga ride in the last two years due to the pandemic situation. Couples are showing a lot of enthusiasm,” he said.
“Some of the couples have come from Kodagu, Mysuru and village-type dresses. They were welcomed traditionally,” he added.
Tonga ride will start at Sri Rangacharlu Memorial Town Hall on Ashoka Road here and go through Silver Jubilee Tower, Chamarajendra Wadiyar Circle, Mysuru Palace, K R Circle, Jaganmohan Palace, Parakala Matha, Dewan Purnaiah’s house, Oriental Research Institute, Deputy Commissioner’s office and Mysuru City Railway Station and return to Town Hall.
