Mysuru: The National Workshop on Science and Communication was organised by School of Life Sciences, Mysuru of JSS AHER in association with DBT/WELLCOME Trust India Alliance concluded on Thursday June 16.
The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Prof. Niranjana Vanalli, Vice Chancellor, Bangalore North University, Kolar on Tuesday June 14. The event was presided over by Dr. B. Manjunatha, Registrar, JSS AHER. Guest of Honour Dr. Sanjukta Mukherjee, Grants Advisor, India Alliance, the Convenor of the event, Dr. K. A. Raveesha, Head, School of Life Sciences, Dr. Soumya Kanti Ghosh, Himashree Bhattacharya from India Alliance were present during the event alongside the organising secretaries, Dr. Raghu Ram Achar and Dr. Ann Catherine Archer.
The topics covered during the workshop were Ethics in Research and Communications, Writing an Effective Grant, Funding Opportunities at India Alliance by Dr. Sanjukta Mukherjee; Scientific Manuscript Writing and Responding to Reviewers; Laying the Foundation for a Career in Science by Dr. Soumya Kanti Ghosh; and Science Communication and Public Engagement by Himashree Bhattacharya.
The novelty of the workshop was to address the recent Science Communication trends through sessions like Educating Science by Storytelling by Suraj Nair, Science Storyteller, Appukuttan Blog; Educating Bioscience – The Cartoon Way by Dr. Parvathi J. R., Coordinator, Research Promotion, Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai; and Science Animations and Illustrations by Rafeeque Mavoor, Science Illustator, Scidart.
