Mysuru: Rangayana Director and Author of Tipu Nijakanasugalu Addanda Cariappa said that the play has won big.

Speaking to mediapersons on Thursday February 2, he said that the SDPI Activist B. S. Rafeeullah has withdrawn the writ petition filed in State High Court to ban the play Tipu Nijakanasugalu. He said that Rafeeullah in his petition to Court alleged that Tipu Sultan was insulted in the play, holy Azaan was used in the play and Muslims were being hurt and thus it created unrest in the society by calling Muslims as Turks in the play. Following the complaint, the Court ordered to ban on the sale of the book but allowed to stage the play. He said that a drama was staged throughout the State to an overwhelming response from the audience. He said he had submitted every document to the Court defending the points used in the play. He said that it was made clear that no disrespect was shown except that Aazan was used as a prayer just like Ganapati Stotra and Bhajans are used in dramas. The tradition of calling Muslims Turks is in use everywhere, he said and added that it was made clear to the Court that it was not a word used to insult the Community.

He said that through historical evidence he submitted documents to Court saying Tipu Sultan was a king and not a freedom fighter. In the play, he has shown the other face of Tipu Sultan. He produced historical evidence related to the conversion of Kodavas and Mangalore Christians, the killing of Melukote Iyengars and the destruction of many temples including Hampi to the Court.

He said that he convinced the Court that Tipu was a Muslim and not a representative of the Muslims. He said before the judgement the petitioner has withdrawn the writ petition hence the play has won big.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi changed the name of the Mughal Garden in New Delhi and renamed it Amrita Udyan, and also that Alamatti Udyan should be renamed after Freedom Fighter Hardekar Manjappa. He demanded that the words Tipu Kote written on the Bellary Fort should also be removed.
