Mysuru: South Western Railways, Mysuru Division marked Gandhi Jayanti by organising mass shramadana on Sunday October 2.
SWR Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Rahul Agarwal paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi on 153rd birth anniversary in a function at Gandhi Vana near Railway Sports Grounds, Yadavagiri, Mysuru. DRM administered the Cleanliness Pledge to Officers and staff and prizes were given to the winners of essay competition and drawing competition on Swachh Bharat conducted during the Swachhata fortnight.
The Sanitation and housekeeping staff were also felicitated for their dedicated work and later cloth bags were distributed to rail passengers to spread the message of ban on single use plastics. Addressing the gathering Rahul Agarwal said “In recent years, the Ministry of Railways has been pushing to give a boost to the Government’s cleanliness mission Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in many ways including fortnightly Swachhata Pakhwada Campaign. Under the aegis of Swachh Rail, Swachh Bharat Mysuru Division of South Western Railways observed a fortnight cleanliness drive Swachhata Pakhwada across the Division from September 16 to October 2.
Each day of the Pakhwada (fortnight) was given a special swachhata theme such as clean tracks, clean waterbodies, community engagement on cleanliness, clean residential colonies as well as stations and clean trains. The start of the drive was with the theme of Swachh Awareness, in which Railway staff pledged to keep these clean and swachh, and different activities along
with participation of staff, public, Bharat Scouts and Guides and NGO were held across the Division to raise awareness about cleanliness.
Vinayak R. Nayak ADRM I, E VIjaya ADRM II, Senior Officers and Staff were present at Gandhi Jayanti celebration and participated in mass Shramadaan at Linen Care Centre.
