Mysuru: “Survival of reptile species is essential,” said ‘Snake’ Shyam (M. S. Balasubramaniam), noted snake rescuer, wildlife conservationist and Former Corporator.
Speaking at the ‘World Snake Day’ organised on Saturday July 16 to raise awareness among people about these reptiles and how much they contribute to the world and its different ecosystems, he said that survival of reptile species is essential. It is important for ecological balance. Everyone should plant saplings at their residences and keep the environment clean and safe. Every living creature in the ecosystem is important because they depend on each other to survive. We must respect every organism,” he stressed.
He also gave a special talk on reptiles species with pictorial representation and their progeny, and the first aid measures to be initiated in the event of a snake bite.
D. Rajkumar said “We should not catch snakes out of fear for life, but catch them to promote Science. “Our ancestors and elders have given a revered place to every animal and bird species through series of festivals amid us. Children should take the initiative to protect the environment at an early age,” he added.
