Nine farmers conferred with Krishi Ratna Award

Mysuru: Nine individuals who have made a successful career in farming in Mysuru and Chamarajanagara Districts were honoured with ‘Krishi Ratna 2022’ Award on Monday May 23 by Karnataka Rajya Raita Kalyana Sangha (KRRS).

Addressing the gathering Senior Journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar advised farmers to reduce the use of pesticides, fertilisers and try to adopt organic farming method to save the fertility of the soil. Stressing on growing multi-crops Amshi Prasanna Kumar said, “Multi-crops help in recharging nutrition in the soil, and increases the demand for produces also. With less competition in the market and more varieties to supply, the farmers can look for some gains. Soil is the mother of the country and it is our responsibility to protect our mother. ”

Sangha President Chandan Gowda educated the farmers saying, “while it takes 80 to 100 years to make a handful of soil, just a minute is suffice to spoil the soil. However, the farmers are the hands that feed the entire country.”

Farmers Lokesh, Shivanna, Hemant, Abhishek, Ashok, Nagendra, Chikkaraju , Vijay Kumar and Umesh were conferred ‘Krishi Ratna’ Awards.

Lokesh who has leased a few acres of land is earning not less than Rs. 50 lakh per annum from farming, while Abhishek who is a youngster has also made a living out of farming. Likewise there are many such inspiring stories that can truly revolutionise the food production if others take a cue. With many returning to farming especially after Covid – 19 pandemic wreaked a havoc, such successful stories may act as a catalyst to be a part of the bigger narration one day.
