Preparation On For Canon Firing In Mysuru

Mysuru: As the days are nearing for traditional Dasara festival, hectic preparation is on to celebrate simple Dasara. On the one hand, the major attraction, Dasara elephants are camping in palace premises, and have been participating in rehearsals, while on the other hand, City Armed Reserve (CAR) Policemen are preparing for canon firing, which is another major attraction.

30 CAR policemen were involved in canon cleaning. On Thursday September 30, 11 canons will be fired. CAR DCP  Shivaraj told that the life insurance cover has been provided to all the personnel who participate in canon firing.  Two rounds each will be fired by 7 canons in the presence of elephants and horse team. The rehearsal is aimed to prepare animals to sustain fire and huge sound. The canon firing will be done two more times before Dasara Jambu Savari.

From October 1, wooden howdah rehearsal will be undertaken between 9.25 am to 10.30 am. The howdah weighs 280 kgs, and the elephant team has been practicing in the palace premises. On Monday September 27, the elephants practiced carrying sand bag weighing 800 kgs.  On Tuesday September 28, the elephant Dhananjaya and on Wednesday September 29, the elephant Gopalaswamy carried 800 kg sand bags. The elephants will be given rest on Thursday September 30 and Saturday October 2.
