Mysuru: A private hotel in Cultural City has added a new attraction to its customers since Monday February 14. The new attraction is the latest production of technology and is a robo.

Hotel Siddhartha for the first time in the City has introduced humanoid waitress to serve its customers. Humanoid waitress welcomes the customers and serves food and water at the tables. Named Robo Sundari, the humanoid is attired in traditional Mysuru silk saree with bindi, necklace and bangles.

The Delhi-made robot is battery-powered and can work for up to 8 hours on a single charge. The pre-programmed robot works by voice command. A magnetic stripe installed from the kitchen to each table navigates the humanoid to deliver a 10-kg load with ease. The robot also clears the table by taking back the dishes and cutlery to the washroom.

Speaking to News Karnataka, Hotel Siddhartha Groups Chairman P. V. Giri says “hotel industry needs to periodically upgrade. Labour is a huge problem in the industry. We’ll add more robots to our service- based on the customer’s feedback.” He said the Robo costs 2.5 lakh and management plans to include five more robos soon.

For now the humanoid waitress has attracted many customers and it seems to have become the tourist attraction in the City. Customers too are equally thrilled with the dining experience and are happy being served by Robo Sundari.

Upahara Darshini restaurant in Shivamogga was the first to introduce a humanoid waiter in the State.
