Mysuru: Scion of erstwhile royal family of Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar took out Vijayayatre (Victory march) on account of Vijayadashami at Palace premises on Friday October 15.

Yaduveer along with entourage of priests, royal elephants, cows, horses and camels and nadaswara artistes went in a procession to Bhuvaneshwari Temple within the Palace precincts. Vijayayatre is also called Bijayayatre that marks the private Navaratri rituals that is in practice in the erstwhile royal family.

As is the tradition still in practice, Wadiyar carries royal sword and performs Banni puja to Shami Vruksha (tree) and symbolically distributes Shami leaves believed as sacred, to family and friends.

It is a treat to watch the titular king in royal robes and bejewelled headgear that makes for a sartorial elegance.
