Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus talk on Sep 4

Mysuru: As part of the University of Mysore’s Centenary Celebrations, Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and Founder of ‘Grameen’, Muhammad Yunus will be in Mysuru city on September 4 to deliver a lecture. The talk is scheduled for 4pm at Crawford Hall on September 4, and the lecture is open to the general public as well as interested students. Yunus’ lecture is titled ‘Redesigning economics to redesign the world.’

Two books will also be released on the occasion; one is a translated biography of Yunus and the other is a book written by Prof. Dongre of the Commerce Department. The biography has been translated by K V Prabhakar. Apart from these series of lectures by Nobel Laureates, the commerce department of the University of Mysore has taken up the ‘Learn to Serve, Serve to Learn-Mainstreaming Rural Mysuru’ programme. Students of the commerce department will be going to 100 villages around Mysuru, Hassan, Chamarajanagara and Mandya to enrol100 villagers to micro- insurance schemes.

Chairman of ISRO, Kiran Kumar, will be speaking on October 31 to bring knowledge of space research to the general public. Dr. Venkataramanan Ramakrishnan, a Nobel prize winner for Chemistry will be in the city on December 11 and Nobel prize winner for Physiology Richard John Roberts will be speaking on December 15.
