Mysuru: A notice has been issued by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) to an agency handling waste disposal and for failing to dispose bio-medical waste in CM Siddaramaiah’s constituency.
A single private firm, Sri Consultancy had taken contract to dispose hazardous bio-medical waste of the city and a unit was installed in Vajamangala gram panchayath limits which comes under Varuna, CM Siddaramaiah’s constituency. Waste consisting syringes, swabs, bandages, body fluids, bottles from prestigious KR Hospital including 1500 other small hospitals is collected and destroyed in the unit.
But the agency has disposed bio-medical waste weighing 16 tons in the residential area and it is also flowing thorough Varuna canal. The foul smell spreading in the nearby villages is also a cause of concern. Following a public complaint filed, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) inspected the area and has issued notice under 1989, 1974, 1982 the Environment (Protection) Act to answer within a week.
Locals have demanded for an immediate solution for this issue.
