Mysuru: The doctors and patients in City now heave a sigh of relief! The second cardiac cath lab facility at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research (SJICR), Mysuru was inaugurated by Dr CN Manjunath, Director, SJICR.
A cath lab is an examination room with diagnostic imaging equipment for visualising the arteries and chambers of the heart. The procedures carried out in cath lab include coronary angiography, coronary angioplasty, closure of some congenital heart defect, treatment of stenotic heart valves; permanent and temporary pacemaker implantation and radio frequency catheter ablation. During cardiac catheterisation, pictures are taken of the coronary arteries using dye injected through a flexible tube about the size of spaghetti directly into the coronary artery. The cardiologist will view the films and determine the presence or absence of blockages or narrowing.
Speaking after inaugurating the second cath lab facility at the institute, Dr Manjunath lauded the institute in Mysuru for providing good facility to the people especially the poor and middle class. Everyday, an average of 20 to 25 patients were making use of the lone cath lab facility at the institute. Now not only the patients but also doctors can feel relieved with the introduction of the second cath lab and treatment done faster, he added. The Mysuru institute is headed by Dr Sadanand.
