Police arrest five men on robbery charges

Mysuru: The district police arrested five persons who were travelling from Bengaluru to Kerala via Mysuru in a SUV on the charges of robbery.

RobberyThe police held them near Bilikere, accordingly they had robbed Rs 6 lakh on February 9, 2015. Three persons, including the driver of the SUV have been arrested.

On that day, Mohammed Shafi, a resident of Malampuzha in Kerala, along with his friends Rafik, Faizal, Sarfuddin, Jaffar and driver Umar were travelling in their white-coloured Bolero jeep when they were attacked near Bilikere petrol pump by a group of 10 people. They were carrying Rs 6 lakh with them.

Mohammad Shafi and Rafik are brothers and the former had told the latter to collect Rs 6 lakh from a certain Sunny from Bengaluru. The money belonged to Shafi and he was involved in some business.
After collecting the cash, the brothers, along with Faizal, Sarfuddin, Jaffar and Umar – the driver, headed towards Kerala in the SUV (TN-43-Y-0806).

They reached Bilikere at around 12:45 pm and crossed the petrol bunk where a cement-coloured Innova was parked. As the SUV crossed the petrol bunk, a truck crossed from one side of the road to another. Seeing the truck, Umar slowed down the vehicle. Immediately, the Innova that was parked near the petrol bunk blocked the SUV.

Four men swiftly alighted from the Innova and threw stones at the other vehicle. The front glass of vehicle got smashed and the attackers threw chilli powder inside. Under shock and unable to comprehend what was going on, the people inside the SUV struggled to come out of the vehicle.

As they got down, they were assaulted by the other gang. The robbers snatched the cash bag and two people drove the SUV, leaving behind the original travellers. The other two attackers drove the Innova. Mobile phones too were snatched from the victims.
Investigating the incident, the police, on July 13, arrested 31-year-old Umer, the driver of the SUV and a resident of Mulakod House, 30-year-old Yassar Arfat, a resident of Puvakoth House, and 28-year-old Saifuddeen, a resident of Chayanaadukuil House. All the accused are from Malampuzha district.

The police have seized Rs 3,25,000 from the accused and produced them before the court. The investigation was conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Abhinav Khare and Nanjanagud sub-division ACP Amrith Prakash Nikkam.
Cracking a series of vehicle theft and house burglary cases, the district police have arrested 8 persons. They have been identified as Nasrulla, Mohammad Riyaz, Sadik, Shahrukh, Mahesh, Manju, Andu Rafi and Rahim.

The accused are involved in many vehicle theft and house burglary cases in Hunsur, Mysuru, H D Kote and Hassan. Three Maruti 800 cars, one Maruti Esteem car, 75 gram gold jewellery, one LED TV, and a gas cylinder al worth Rs 65 lakh have been seized from them.
