Mysuru: A kind of cold war seems to have kick started between the traders of Sayaji Rao road and the police department. Keeping in mind the resplendent Vijayadashami celebrations and the practice of people climbing the shop roof tops to view the world famous ‘Jumboo Savari’, the police department has passed the buck on the shopkeepers stating that the shopkeepers have to control the crowd.

However, this move of the police has not gone well with the shop owners of Sayaji Rao road. Commenting on the same, Pailwan Mahadev, President of Devaraja Market Traders’ Association said that it was unfair on the part of the police to have fixed the responsibility on the traders. The unhappy traders are of the opinion that since all the shops remain closed during Vijayadashami, it is actually the responsibility of the police to control the mob instead of putting responsibility on them.

Pailwan Mahadev said “The police department should take up responsibility to clear such crowds who climb up the terrace on Sayjaji road to see Jamboo Savari. By paying some money, hundreds of people with the help of ladder climb up the shop. Most of the buildings on these stretch are bad in shape, hence instead of putting responsibility on shop owners, the police should take up responsibility to clear such crowds. The shop keepers can’t keep tab on such people who behave very rudely.”

DCP Shekar said “It should be a collective responsibility; both tenant and police should work tandem to stop people climbing on top of their respective shops. We have called meeting with them and try to chalk out if there is any difference”. The traders and shop keepers have brought this to the notice of Deputy Commissioner D Randeep and also to police department.
