President to inaugurate National Bharat Scouts and Guides Jamboree in Mysuru

Mysuru: President of India Pranab Mukherjee who is also the patron of scout and guides will be inaugurating the 17th seven-day National Bharat Scouts and Guides Jamboree which will be held in Mysuru at Adakanahalli village from December 29 to January 4. This is for the first time Mysuru is hosting national scouts and guides Jamboree. Adakanahalli village is located between Mysuru and Nanjangud, nearly 23km from Mysuru.

As part of the seven day Jamboree, the organizers have also planned an airshow, motorcycle show from border security force personnel and also a performance from paratroopers. More than 30,000 students from across the country including nearly 2000 from neighboring countries including Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh are expected to take part in the seven day National jamboree. The government earmarked Rs 10 crore for the event which is being held in the state after a gap of 30 years. In 1986, it was held at Bengaluru Palace grounds which was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Bharat Scouts and Guides which started in 1917 will celebrate their centenary celebration by organising the National Jamboree in Mysuru. The third and the tenth national jamboree events were held in Bengaluru. Dignitaries from various countries are expected to take part in the event. As part of the event, there will various programs including quiz competitions, adventure sports apart from cultural program, tour and others. During the seven day camp, more than 30,000 scouts and guides students, especially in the age group between 11 and 16 years will participate along with 5000 teachers. The organizers will not be providing food, instead will be providing individual kitchen to all the teams or states and rations at reasonable cost where in the participants themselves from different places will be preparing their own food. For the benefit of the participants, Grains Merchants Association, KMF and HOPCOMS will be setting up outlets.

P Vishwanath, District Chief Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides and Secretary General, Jamboree said, “The organization is devoted to character building of youth and promoting in them the feeling of selfless service to the nation. It is an attempt in overall to make them good citizens of this country. Scouts and guides are taught how to build tents, erect flag poles, first aid and others activities. To encourage outstanding scouts and guides, the government has also reserved seats in professional courses including engineering and medicine. We will be erecting 2500 tents which are also called as Choudari tents. Normally such tents are set up by army and NCC cadets each measuring 14ft/14ft which will accommodate nearly 8 to 10 participants. Apart from this 250 tents will be set up for rovers who will be basically coming for service purpose. Makeshift 50 bedded hospital including staff nurse and doctors will also be set up. All the events will be held at 1000ft/800ft arena which is like stadium with seating capacity of 15,000 people. The event will be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee on December 29 at 3pm. We have planned to invite Vice President M Hamid Ansari for the valedictory function which will be held on January 4”. He also mentioned that the preparation for the seven day event started two months ago. PGR Sindhia, State Chief Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Karnataka and Jamboree Co-chief along with his other members are going all out to provide the best possible facilities for the participants.
