Mysuru: After nearly two-and-a-half months of corporation elections, Mysuru gets its new mayor. The Congress party, backed by the JDS, managed to get the Mayor’s post and selected Pushpalatha Jagannath, former deputy mayor, as the city’s new Mayor. Shashi Ahmed of the JDS was elected as the city’s new Deputy Mayor.
It can be recalled that for the past nearly ten days, there were a lot of negotiations going on between the Congress and JDS parties, as both of them were vying for the post of Mysuru City Corporation Mayor. In this regard, both the parties held meetings with their respective party leaders and elected representatives.
Till Thursday, district in-charge minister G T Devegowda insisted that the JDS will get the Mayor’s post, however, former chief minister Siddaramaiah, who instructed MLA Tanveer Sait and former district in-charge minister H C Mahadevappa to chalk out a strategy and hold talks with the JDS leaders to convince them to hand over the Mayor’s post to the Congress. Evidently, Siddaramaiah’s efforts proved fruitful to the Congress party.
