Mysuru: “Explain the science behind “Vaasthu”. Don’t be a silent spectator”, said PWD Minister H C Mahadevappa here on Saturday. He was speaking after inaugurating of a convention and workshop for engineers organised by the Karnataka Engineers Association at Senate Hall.

Addressing the gathering he said, “Along with the responsibility of building the nation, engineers also have a social and moral responsibility towards society. Why have you allowed someone else to smuggle your trade. Opportunists are using it in a better way. They have become more prominent in the society and your work will go unnoticed. This is not the way an engineer should be.”

“You have given a list of demands to fulfil however you need to also think of the moral responsibility  and work on it. Why have you kept mum over Vaasthu.  People are plying it like a trade. I am very disappointed with the way you are allowing them to do. If you are doing the best why cant you tell the common man the Science behind Vaasthu? Is that not your responsibility to avoid common man from being misled by these people?” he questioned.

Further he said that Engineers should also have national integrity. Giving the example of Hiroshima and Nagasaki he said that with their pro nation stand they were able to build up the whole city in just short span of time and it has also boosted their moral values. There should be the confidence among engineers and I have not seen that attitude with you people. Come out with a  workable formula to come over all the hurdles and I will definitely do whatever I can within the purview of Law.

The State government has bagged two national awards for the State High Way Management Project.   We have also, managed to get funds from the World Bank for a four lane road from Yelahanka to Doddaballapur. The central government has also appreciated their work. The government has decided to develop Visvesvaraya’s house in Mysuru into a museum and celebrate his birth anniversary and honour engineers on the occasion.
