Mysuru: With Mysuru Zoo coming under grip of Avian Influenza, Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary has been put on alert.
The officials have told the Sanctuary staff to keep an eye on the behaviour and movement of birds.
A tank is being built at the entrance of the sanctuary so that tourists can wash their hands and legs before entering the sanctuary area. Tourists have been prohibited from bringing food along with them and consuming the same inside the sanctuary premises.
With death of several birds in Mysuru Zoo, for the first time ever, the 124-year-old zoo will remain shut for one month.
Lab reports confirmed that six free-ranging and migratory birds died due to avian influenza (H5N8) in late December.
