Mysuru: An intensive one-day drive to curb ticketless travel and other offences under the Indian Railways Act, 1989 was conducted by Mysuru division railway authorities on Mysuru-Chamarajanagar Section recently. More than 273 cases were booked and Rs 78,210 was collected in way of fines during the drive.
In a surprise check between Kadakola and Ashokapuram Railway Stations on T.No.56281 Chamarajanagar – Bengaluru City Passenger, a total of 83 persons booked for various offences like ticketless travel, travelling in coaches reserved for ladies and disabled passengers and travelling on foot-board were produced in a makeshift Court Room.
The Special Judicial Magistrate (Railways) prosecuted and imposed fines amounting to Rs.9750 on the offenders, Further in the concurrent checks on the day, an additional 273 cases were booked and fine amounting to Rs.78,210 was collected . The Magisterial check was organised jointly by commercial and security branches by deploying 27 ticket checking staff, 09 commercial branch staff and 35 Railway Protection Force Staff led by Yashod Kumar, Divisional Commercial Manager and Kenchanaika. S.G.Yathish, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, South Western Railway, Mysuru has cautioned that checks against ticketless travel and other irregularities would be stepped up throughout the division in the coming days. He has urged the passengers to always travel with proper authority so as to avoid being penalized, which may include imprisonment.
