Mysuru: Devotees from various places of witnessed the Vardhanti Mahotsava (birthday) of Goddess Chamundeshwari, Chamundi Hill this morning. Special pujas including Abhiyangana Abhisheka, Mahanyasa Purvaka Rudrabhisheka, Panchamrutha Abhisheka and Arathi, were offered to Goddess Chamundeshwari by the temple priests from 5 am.The temple was opened for devotees from 8 am onwards.At 10 am, Mahamangalarathi was offered to the Goddess and at 10.30 am, the presiding deity Goddess Chamundeshwari’s idol, was placed in a golden palanquin.Pramoda Devi Wadiyar and her son Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar offered arathi to Goddess Chamundeshwari and as per the tradition, pulled the chariot carrying the deity’s idol.
Thereafter, a colourful procession of the idol was taken around the temple, accompanied by various folk troupes.
Chamundeshwari music troupe played the song Paleyama Krupakari Rajarajeshwari, composed by Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, on the occasion.
Free bus service was provided by the District Administration from 6 am today. City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda had made elaborate security arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Vardhanti Mahotsava.
