Mysuru: The students of Sarada Vilas Law College on Tuesday, December 18, climbed the college building while protesting against the administration’s refusal to issue admission tickets for exams as a penalty against shortage of attendance. They threatened to jump off the building but were pacified by Police Inspector Siddaraju.

Among the nearly 320 students who are pursuing law courses at the century old Sharada Vilas College, about 125 students whose attendance is less than the mandatory 70 percent, were denied hall tickets by the University of Mysore. Students allege that the Principal Rajeshwari is discriminating among students while giving attendance. They also accuse that some of the students who were irregular and having attendance less than the cut-off percentage had been considered for admission tickets.

But Rajeshwari told Newskarnataka, “The allegation made by the students is far from true and those with less than 70 percent attendance have not been issued hall tickets. Last year, the students had sent a letter to University of Mysore that hall tickets were given to students who didn’t deserve. Few weeks ago, even the Vice Chancellor Hemantha Kumar had visited the college to know about the students’ attendance. During his visit also, many students were found to be absent. Yet, for the welfare of students, I spoke to the vice chancellor but he clearly mentioned that those with shortage of attendance cannot be given the hall ticket.”

During the protest, some students were found pleading with the principal for hall tickets.

Earlier, Police Inspector Siddaraju was successful in getting the students down from the building.
