Mysuru: For the welfare of small scale industries a separate Directorate should be set up by the government, said A Padmanabha, President of Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA).

Speaking after inaugurating an awareness programme on GST and NSIC Finance Facilitation Centre at Kings Kourt Hotel here on Friday he said “Goods and Services Tax is one of the biggest tax reforms we are undertaking after independence in India. Awareness programme on GST is the need of the hour and such awareness programmes will definitely improve the knowledge of the industrialists”. He also mentioned that amendments on industrial policy which were introduced recently would be taken up soon. “The policies are made to benefit the industrialists and there should be development through policy, but the industrial policy which the state government had come up with had some setbacks for the industrialists. Hence keeping this in mind, amendment will be made in the industrial policy in a weeks’ time”, he added.

S Rajkumar, Chief Commissioner of Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax, Mysuru Zone briefing about the proposed Goods and Services Tax Amendment which would be implemented from April next year said “Already a lot of awareness programmes about GST have been conducted by the department but the reach was limited. Hence more seminars and workshops will be taken up across the state. GST is a destination-based tax on consumption of goods and services. Once it is implemented and becomes reality, the manufacturing sectors are expected to be the beneficiary of GST as the economic system will become more competitive and the supply chain will become faster and more efficient”. On the occasion he also highlighted the aspects of GST.

MLA Vasu, Joint commissioner of Commercial Taxes B N Giriyannavar, Mysuru Industries Association, Vice President Umesh K Shenoy and Secretary Suresh Kumar Jain were also present.
