Srinivas Prasad’s Nanjangud constituency thrown to centre-stage of state politics

Mysuru: The resignation by sitting Nanjangud Congress MLA Srinivas Prasad on October 17 has brought Nanjangud to limelight as a turf war is likely to shape up soon.

The by-election scheduled to take place in the near future after the resignation of Prasad is already throwing new aspirants in the election battle field. District in charge and PWD minister’s son Sunil Bose has evinced keen interest in the seat to test his political fortunes. It is gathered, the chief minister is keen on fielding sitting congress MP from Chamarajnagar Dhruvanarayan because of his clean image. The by-election gains significance as Nanjangud reserve constituency is traditional congress bastion where the fight will be between CM Siddaramaiah and his once cabinet colleague turned opponent Srinivas Prasad irrespective of the candidates in the fray.

The BJP and the JDS are likely to put their weight behind Srinivas Prasad as it will help both the parties to dent Siddaramaih’s stature and to avenge Chamundeshwari assembly by-election defeat which changed the fortunes for the present CM.

In the meantime Srinivas Prasad has kept his cards close to the chest and not revealed his future plans nor given an indication of joining either of the state opposition parties BJP and JDS.

The ground is ready for another battle of prestige between two political heavy weights in the Mysuru region and whether it will result in political waterloo for the present state chief minister, only time will tell?
