Two leopards trapped in three days in HD Kote

Mysuru: In just span of three days, two leopards were trapped in a cage at Beechanalli in HD Kote Taluk. While a two-year-old male leopard was trapped on Friday, on Monday four-year-old female leopard was trapped in the same farm.

Beechanalli residents had informed forest department personnel that a leopard was frequently sighted in the village. Four days ago, the alert forest personnel had laid a trap. On Monday morning the big cat was found trapped in the cage. The villagers brought it to the notice of forest personnel who in turn took the big cat and left it in Nagarhole DB Kuppe forest range. The locals heaved a sigh of relief after the leopard was trapped because the big cat had attacked several cattle and dogs over the last few days.It can be brought to notice that in the same farm, on Friday two year old male leopard which had created similar problem was trapped on Friday by the forest officials.

V Karikalan, DCF (Social Forestry) said “From September to December it is breeding season for these big cats and hence they are sighted or found frequently. Even cubs are also found in more number during this season. The visibility of these animals will come down by January. We have also instructed the villagers to alert us if they come across any such animals”.
