Mysuru: Despite crime incidents hogging news headlines, few humanitarian gestures help society stay afloat in troubled times. A couple from UK on arrival at Mysuru to celebrate their child’s naming ceremony donated the entire amount meant for the celebrations to save a girl battling for life in a private hospital.Overburdened by loans and disgusted with life, the head of a family decided to kill his daughter before ending his life. In a fit of rage he tried to strangle his daughter Manasa first, who resisted his murder bid. Frustrated, he pushed her to the wall. The girl fell unconscious and the father retracted from inflicting further damage, eventually ending his own life by slitting his throat with a wood cutter saw.

Saraswathipuram Police sub inspector rushed the unconscious girl to a nearby private hospital. At the same time Inspector Poovaiah’s friend Mallik and his wife Archana had arrived in the city from London to take part in the naming ceremony of their son.

Inspector Poovaiah narrated the entire incident to the couple. Moved with pity, the couple decided to donate Rs 40000 meant for the celebration towards victim Manasa’s hospital bills.

Their own child’s naming ceremony turned into a simple affair but their magnanimity may give fresh lease of life to the innocent girl battling against odds in the hospital.
