Mysuru: The family of an undertrail prisoner who died due to cardiac arrest has suspected harassment as the cause of his death. Kundayya (38) son of Eerayya from Honnenahalli village in Piriyapattana taluk is the deceased.
On Friday night, at 9 pm he is said to have had his supper and all of a sudden collapsed and was immediately taken to hospital. However, prison officers told his family that doctors have confirmed that he died due to cardiac arrest. But the family alleged some foul play and suspected that he might have died due to harassment from other prisoners or prison staff. They have asked to probe the case and have registered complaint.
Last April, Kundayya, an accused in dowry harassment case was denied bail and was an undertrail. His family complained about the sudden death to Nurunnisa, a judge, who arrived at the mortuary and examined the body and autopsy report. The family of the deceased alleged that even though he died at 9pm, prison officers and police did not inform the family until 8 the next morning. “There should be a judicial probe”, they demanded.
The judge however assured that truth will come out and action will be taken against Piriyapattana police for negligence.
