Mysuru: Timely intervention of passersby ensured a miraculous escape for over 10 school children after the van in which they were travelling caught fire at Vijaya Bank Circle in Kuvempunagar in Mysuru.

The van driver, Yogesh on being alerted about the fire by passersby immediately stopped the vehicle and with help of the locals evacuated the school children safely out of the van who were later sent home in a separate vehicle, it is gathered.

While the children and the driver escaped unscathed, another security van that was parked near the spot too caught fire.

Fire tenders from Saraswathi Puram reached the spot and doused the fire. According to police, not much damaged was caused to the security vehicle.

Yogesh, however could not be interrogated by the police officials since he fled the spot out of fear soon after the incident. “We can find out what went amiss only after interrogating the driver,” said a police officer.

A case has been registered in Kuvempunagar police station.
